First Cut of the Spade for the New ATLANTIC Hotel Kiel
Kiel's mayor today gave the start signal for construction work on the new ATLANTIC Hotel Kiel. Together with the investors the mayor cut the first ground signalling the start of work on the building site.
Kiel's lady mayor, Angelika Volquartz, today gave the start signal for construction work on the new ATLANTIC Hotel Kiel. Together with the Bremen investors Joachim J. Linnemann and Kurt Zech, amidst the many representatives from the fields of politics, economics and administration, the mayor, who is also head of department for economics, cut the first ground signalling the start of work on the building site.
The new member of the ATLANTIC Hotel cooperation in Raiffeisenstrasse, which is located between Kiel's central bus station and the main railway station, will open its doors in the summer of 2010. Initially the site was to be occupied by the Kiel Hotel and Health Centre. The building was conceived as a further "building brick" at the centre of Kiel and fits wonderfully into the existing town-planning structure.
"With its modern Hanseatic design, our four-star private hotel will ideally supplement the existing accommodation available in the state capital. And thanks to its prominent location on the firth, as well as the proximity of the main central station, it represents an attractive destination for travelling businessmen and conference guests, as well as for short-term guests and holidaymakers,“ said Investor Kurt Zech, convinced. The design-oriented structure will provide 187 rooms, a restaurant with a creative, cosmopolitan kitchen and a hotel bar. Multifunctional rooms for organized events and banquets will cater for up to 400 persons. A young and sophisticated interior design will await the guests. "The operation of the hotel will create more than 65 fulltime jobs,“ added Joachim J. Linnemann.
Mayor Angelika Volquartz was pleased about this enrichment of her city: "This cut of the spade is an expression of entrepreneurial vision in these stressful economic times. It speaks for the attractiveness of the trade-fair and congress location KIEL.SAILING CITY that the ATLANTIC Hotel cooperation has placed its trust in our city. 27 million euros is no chickenfeed. I thank the investors for the trust they have placed in Kiel as a location. I am certain that this investment will prove a worthwhile one for all of those involved and I wish the hotel operators every success and lots of satisfied guests.“
The private ATLANTIC Hotel cooperation stands for personal and individual hospitality in the spirit of the times. The cooperation already has four hotels in prominent locations in Bremen, as well as the unmistakable ATLANIC Hotel SAIL City in Bremerhaven, which was opened in 2008 and is situated directly on the river Außenweser. Further hotels in Bremen and in Lübeck will join the cooperation in the coming year.
