The construction work on the new private four-star hotel belonging to the ATLANTIC Hotel cooperation has now begun. Today, in the presence of a large number of representatives from the fields of politics, business and administration, the traditional laying of the foundation stone was undertaken by Lübeck's Mayor Bernd Saxe and the Lady Director of the Lübeck swimming baths, Sieglinde Schüssler. With this design-oriented hotel facility in Schmiedestrasse the investors Joachim J. Linnemann and Kurt Zech have erected the first and only hotel in Lübeck's old town. As is the custom, a cartouche containing a number of coins, a daily newspaper and copies of the building plans were "walled-in" with the foundation stone.
The architecture of the new structure integrates well with the existing buildings of the inner city, thereby satisfying the requirements of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ATLANTIC Hotel will have 136 rooms, studios and suites. The rooms are arranged such that they will offer an excellent view of the old town. The fifth upper storey is designed as a staggered level with roof lounge. "Here's where the sauna and fitness area will be located, as well as a festivities hall overlooking Lübeck. Further multifunctional rooms for organized events catering for up to 250 guests will be integrated in the building,“ explained Joachim J. Linnemann. The hotel will offer its guests a restaurant with a creative, cosmopolitan kitchen, a hotel bar and a basement garage. "The operation of the hotel will create 60 fulltime and several part-time jobs,“ added Linnemann.
The spacious hotel foyer extends over four storeys and forms a connection between two streets at different levels. "The interior design is young, modern and sophisticated. With an understanding shown for the Hanseatic style of life and Lübeck's cultural heritage, as shown in selected details indicating the city's importance for German literature,“ said Investor Kurt Zech.
The ATLANTIC Hotel is the first to be built within Lübeck's old town, other existing hotels all being situated on the periphery of the inner city. The building will be realized by the Hamburg construction company Zechbau GmbH. The private ATLANTIC Hotel cooperation stands for personal and individual hospitality in the spirit of the times. The cooperation already has four hotels in prominent locations in Bremen, as well as the unmistakable ATLANIC Hotel SAIL City in Bremerhaven, which was opened in 2008 and is situated directly on the river Außenweser. Further hotels in Bremen and in the state capital Kiel will join the cooperation in the coming year.
